CDTI awards two new R&D projects to Sofitec

The entity has selected Sofitec to participate in two projects on the application of advanced manufacturing technologies in the aerospace industry.

The center for industrial technological development (CDTI), ERDF fund manager since 2007, designed the regional instrument ERDF Innterconecta to promote the funding of experimental development projects carried out by business consortiums. Within this instrument, Sofitec has participated since 2018 in the PROFETA and EASYJOINT projects, and now joins two more initiatives dealing with additive manufacturing in composite materials.

TANDEM Project
The first is the TANDEM Project, dedicated to the development of flexible technologies for additive manufacturing of components with high requirements based on continuous fiber thermoplastic composites.
Sofitec is leading the consortium comprised of Rovimatic, a robotics systems company; Sertec, an engineering firm specialized in aeronautics; and the Aimen technology center.
Sofitec’s work will focus on developing and optimizing the parameters of additive manufacturing with continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites, based on robotic 3D printing, which will be used in the manufacture of aeronautical parts.

AVANWINGLET Project
With the support of CDTI, as a part of the CIEN program – dedicated to the financing of large R&D&I projects in areas that are strategic for the future and with potential international projection, Sofitec is also participating in the AVANWINGLET project, led by the Aernnova Group.
The consortium is formed by various divisions of Aernnova; Grupo Norte, specializing in the development of turnkey solutions for robotic systems; and Sertec, and it has the support of the technology centers Tecnalia, CTA, FIDAMC, and the University of the Basque Country.
The project is aimed at research on advanced manufacturing technologies for the competitive, flexible and efficient production of composite winglets.
Thanks to this research, at Sofitec will we be able to automate the processes of composite material manufacturing, improving both our competitiveness and efficiency in the manufacture of this type of components.
